- Monofocal lenses – Allow you to focus for either distance or reading, but not for both.
- Toric lenses – Designed to correct astigmatism.
- Multifocal lenses – Reduce the need for glasses by correcting a range of vision near and far.
- Light adjustable lenses – A cataract lens implant that can be adjusted after cataract surgery.

Standard lenses are what’s called a monofocal, which means they focus for either distance or reading, but not for both — so you’d probably have to wear glasses for the alternative. Some of the premium lenses can help bridge the gap between those two distances. If you opt for a toric lens, that corrects astigmatism; a lot of patients have astigmatism, and it can be corrected with a lens that helps you get your best vision.
There are also multifocal lenses — so if you think about a bifocal or a trifocal, it has lines in the lens. Some of the lenses also have little rings in them, so they help focus on different ranges of vision. Some patients are very happy with these lenses, and other patients describe some glare and halos with them, so we can evaluate you in the office to see if that’s the right choice for you. And finally, the Light Adjustable Lens is the most customizable of the lenses. So there are different types of lenses that are good for different patients, but we can discuss your options when you come to see us in the office.
