There are many treatment options available for dry eye. It’s important that we gather information to figure out what type of dry eye you have. For those with mild dry eye, we often recommend lid hygiene with artificial tears or lubricants and an omega-3 supplement. For those who suffer from evaporative dry eye, we have an in-office procedure to help open up the meibomian glands called LipiFlow. And patients who suffer from aqueous-deficient dry eye, who just don’t produce enough tears, may benefit from a product like Restasis or a procedure called punctal plugs. There’s also, for severe dry eye, treatment with amniotic membranes such as Prokera, which can really help to nurture the cornea back to good health. So as you can see, there are many treatment options available, so it’s important that we understand what type of dry eye you’re suffering from so that we can adequately treat you with what you need.
